A VGM remix of mine: Streets of rage 2 - Back to the industry

The Streets of rage II soundtrack is fucking awesome. I will slap, beat down, run over anybody in Ryo Hazuki’s forklift truck who tells me otherwise. The Streets of rage II / Bare knuckle II soundtrack features many stand-out / classic pieces (the whole damn soundtrack is a stand-out classic) but I always had a soft spot for “Back to the industry” because it felt more melodic and like a ‘theme’ in comparison to everything else which was steeped in dance / house anthems for Blaze to squat in her red skirt and pop her pussy to. So here’s my homage to it. For all of my pimps, playa's and hoes who like ninjas, men in motorcycle helmets who throw grenades and giant conveyor belts. If you like it, please like it, share it and all that lovely shit ♥

VGM remix: Streets of rage II - Expander

The first time I hit stage seven in Streets of rage II , took the fight to the elevator and the music started, I knew shit was about to go down . "Expander" is one of the heaviest, frantic, high energy sounding songs on the whole of the Streets of rage II soundtrack and I f**king love it. As with my previous Streets of rage remixes-that-aren't-really-remixes, I decided to give "Expander" a shot. I started the damn thing 3 years ago and only managed to finish it this week. I love "Expander" so much that I didn't even want to change anything. I just wanted to know I could recreate the sound of the original and give it some extra kick where I could. Listen: Expander New arrangements & production by Random J © Sega / Yuzo Koshiro You could play "Expander" in clubs, and rest assured drugs would get taken to this shit and everybody would head bang with their hands up around the shiniest object they can find at eye level on the dance floo...

VGM remix: Street Fighter Alpha 3 - Karin's theme

I'd received a request from a kind fella who liked my Street Fighter remixes and asked me to do something with Karin's theme from Street Fighter Alpha 3 . He said it was one of his favourites from the game, but that it is not a theme that people often remix or do things with (trailing the guides to life that are Google and YouTube indicated he weren't lying). This request came yonks ago and I'm sure the poor guy has given up wondering if I'd materialize anything. But when I say I'll do something, I always will. Even if it takes me a little while... I wouldn't class this as a remix, as it's pretty much identical to the original. The only real difference is the kicks knocks a little harder, the bass is a little heavier, the snares strike out more and the introduction of some beat switches at the end. Okay, so that's four differences. But it still isn't really a remix.

VGM remix: Super Street Fighter II - Fei-Long's theme

A friend of mine didn't like what was done with Fei-Long's HD remix theme and that Capcom decided to completely change it for Street Fighter IV (sentiments which I also shared). So I decided to re-do Fei-Long's theme! Keeping it very much the same as the original, except for some extra kick here and there. I was so shocked when I heard Fei-Long's theme in Super Street Fighter II Turbo: HD remix . It sounded so muted and toned down, and a complete contrast from how big 'n loud his theme originally was. So I decided to try and emphasize that fee with my rendition. So for those who like me were dissapointed that Capcom did away with Fei-Long's original theme completely in Street Fighter IV : here ya go!

VGM remix: Super Mario Land - Muda kingdom

Super Mario Land was a game I always used to play as a kid whenever I'd go on a family holiday. I'd play it constantly. So I have vivid recollections of it. Super Mario Land always felt like a dirtier version of Super Mario Bros . It was more difficult, featured some Princess that wasn't Toadstool, some bad guy who wasn't Bowser, and was rougher around the edges. But it was still a great game with a charm all unto itself. Whilst Super Mario Land is on of the least talked about Mario games, it did more than just introduce Daisy. It also featured a hot little soundtrack, which I think is a classic. The Muda kingdom theme was always one of my fave pieces from the game, and I love it to this day. I used to sit and sway to it as I played through the stages, and my Mum always used to take the piss and laugh. Until she'd play the game, reach the Muda kingdom and start humming the theme herself. I did this remix two years ago. I kept meaning to finish it, but for some re...

VGM remix: Super Street Fighter II - Cammy's theme

I love Cammy's theme. But it was a bitch to settle on. This shit went through more changes than Elizabeth Taylor's husbands. Every time I thought it was done, the song would haunt me through my iPod to re-do it. This was how it went for the best part of 2 years. But I've finally settled on a mix (for now). So I'm just going to share it with you before I change it all over again. Cammy's theme has always been one of my favourites. Aside from Cammy being a great new addition to the Street Fighter crew, she was given a brilliant theme. I think it's part of what made her such a memorable character. Aside from the front 'n back flossing, jiggly titties and special moves which feature the words 'thrust' and 'drill'. The other Street Fighter remixes... Character select | Ryu | Ken | Chun-Li | Guile | Dhalsim | Zangief | Sakura

VGM remix: Street Fighter Alpha 2 - Sakura's theme

I remember the first time I remixed Sakura's theme. It had this really ethereal R&B vibe to it. I loved it. I still play it to myself now and again. But it didn't really reflect Sakura's personality. Not that the piece had to. But I did think to myself "Maybe I should do another remix that has that fun, effervescent charm that Sakura has..." Something you could imagine her 2 stepping and flashing her panties to. So create a 2 stepping pantie flashing remix I did... The switch at the end wasn't intended. I was messing around with bass lines and then in the midst of my messing around thought "Oooo, that sounds kinda hot!" And the proceeded to give the song a full breakdown. It's completely different from the main part of the song, but I like it so much that I left it in. I'm thinking about Sakura folks! She can get her bubble gum step on to the first part of the song, and then grind up on her senpai and get sexy to the last part. I did have...

VGM remix: Sonic the hedgehog - Spring yard zone

I tend to have tunnel vision sometimes when it comes to things I like. The only 2 pieces of music from the first Sonic game I remembered vividly and loved were Green hill zone and Marble zone. Anything other than that, to me; just wasn't worth bothering with. But during my friend and I's fan boy conversation about "sick" video game soundtracks, he brought up Spring yard zone from Sonic the hedgehog. I said I didn't really remember it and that I wasn't fussed about it. Then he played it...and memories of it came rushing back. It was f**king awesome! I did this remix back in 2006. I played it recently and didn't change a thing. It's one of the few remixes I've done where I've not had this urge to go back and tweak 'n fix anything. Would Sonic and Yuji Naka approve? I'm sure Sonic would. I doubt he cares. Since when has Sonic cared about quality control. You've played his games lately.

VGM remix: Street Fighter II - Ken's theme

I was listening to Britney Spears' album Blackout before I did this mix and had her song "Freakshow" stuck in my head, which is why the start sounds a lot like it. Some of you may be weary of listening to a remix of a Street Fighter song that was influenced by a Britney Spears' song, and I can't blame you. But give this a chance. I would never intentionally ruin a Street Fighter composition. I'm not sure why, but whenever I try to re-create Ken's theme it always comes out sounding really dark and having an electro pop vibe. I try to do the whole up-beat thing, but it never seems to work out. I take things in a darker direction and I always find myself running with it.
