J's thoughts on... The PlayStation Move

The PlayStation Move - Enjoy yo'self [by Random J ;P]
Nintendo got punched, jacked, raped in the arsehole and pissed in the face by Sony. They actually went and copied the Wii remote flat out. Nunchuk and everything! I honestly would have thought that Sony would have gone the Natal route and that Microsoft would've swagger jacked Nintendo's peripheral. But tables have turned, and we have what we have now.

I'm not 100% sold on PlayStation Move. Not because the product looks bad or I'm harbouring fanboy love for Nintendo or anything. But Nintendo has already pretty much done all there is to do with this kind of peripheral. We've had everything from action games, shooting games, party games, boxing games, driving games, RPG's, dressing Barbie and My little Pony with this shit. What extra ground is there for Sony to cover? The only difference with the PS3 having these same controls is that the games will look much, much better than anything could ever look on the Wii.

Nintendo's saving grace (and also their own downfall) is that Wii has been targeted towards the younger gamers and older gamers who won't mind catching bee's in a net, brushing a horse and standing on a white dinner try whilst pretending to lift a weight. But PlayStation 3 crowds are all about the meat and bones. They don't want mini game bullshit. They want those proper 'sit down and waste hours of life' games. And it's these that Sony are really going to have to push and show gamers that Move controls are essential. Nintendo can fall back on Wii Sports, Wii Fit and Wii Garbage to hit the #1 spot on gaming charts, but Sony won't be able to. Luckily for them, they have a much better support system from third parties, but it all depends on if they'll buy into Move and be willing to take a chance on it, and help Sony in their mission to really push it.

It'll be interesting to see if Sony will push for Move to be a staple in their games, or if it ends up being one of those occasional peripherals along with the EyeToy. Sony have always had the best console controller hands down and pretty much haven't changed it for over 10 years. Where-as Nintendo have made a habit of constantly changing theirs with every console. So you could say Nintendo were in a position where Nintendo fans would be a little more perceptive to their shift in controller. So I wonder if Sony audiences will be as perceptive to Sony's new toy. Nintendo's already set them some ground work, so it shouldn't be too hard.

Wii always had the edge with the controls. But now Sony's up on the controls and already have a system on the market that can deliver on the graphics and has the graces of Blu-ray - Nintendo are in some serious trouble now. WiiHD what!? Let's see how this pans out. Nintendo best have a back-up plan, because I don't think new Mario, Zelda and Metroid is gonna work if Move takes off. And this isn't even factoring Natal into the equation...

  1. I'll wait and see how the Move implements into regular games. Jack Trenton said they want to offer gamers a choice with the Move, and would like to implement it into all of their big games. If people like how the Move controls, then they can go with that. If not, they can just stick with their dual shock. As long as they do that, and don't force it down people's throats, I think it might be a cool little thing.

They did rip off Nintendo something hard though, lol.

  2. 'Rip off' is not even the term. I just laughed when I saw the new images with the Nunchuk and wrist strap.

If you were to show some regular Joe (or Joanna) a promotional picture of the PlayStation Move, they'd probably go "Oh, is that Wii!".

Nintendo must be pissed. They can act like they're flattered all they like. But I know them folks at Nintendo are PISSED off *lol*

  3. Yeah, the goofy looking head of Nintendo America (name is Reggie something), said he'd be "embarrassed" if he were the competition. He might say that, but as you say, he's prolly worried and waiting to see how it all turns out.

Black refiners. We’ve gotta talk about that Milchick and Drummond moment in the Severance episode, “The After Hours”.

So, I’m watching season 2 of Severance. And as I post this, the ninth episode of the season “The After Hours” has just aired. And I really wanna talk about it. Well, I wanna talk about one moment in particular — Milchick and Drummond’s lil’ chat. Probably one of my favourite moments of the episode, which felt like the culmination of lots of Milchick moments diverging — adding a new wrinkle to a story and a world which already has more wrinkles than a newborn Shar Pei. Severance has made a commentary on a lot of things. Corporate shenanigans. Abuse of power dynamics. Sexisism. Homophobia. Religion. Consent. Control. And now I guess we can add race to the mix. Full disclaimer. To fully pre-empt and prevent being branded a liar and being misleading — the images in this post with subtitles are not official subtitles from Severance. They are subtitles I slapped on the images for extra effect and humour’s sake, in the vein of ‘What would these characters want to actually say’. I am including...

Nintendo and the Switch 2 pricing shenanigans

I am one of the few people in existence who does not own a Nintendo Switch. Y’all. Even my mum owns a Nintendo Switch. It’s crazy, because I have been with Nintendo through thick and thin and owned near-enough all of their systems. Nintendo has been a constant presence in my life. But the Wii and the Wii U left a sour taste in my mouth which made me apprehensive about buying a Switch. And because I had Mario Kart 8 and Breath of the Wild on Wii U, I had no real incentive to buy a Switch early on. And then there was the Joy-Con drift issue which was a thing from the very beginning. But by the time the Switch had blossomed into this great system with a fantastic library of games, I figured ‘I’ll just get the rumoured Switch Pro when it drops’. Of course I knew this probably wouldn’t be the name, but I was adamant that a revised version of the Switch would release at some point and hopefully Nintendo woulda fixed them damn Joy-Cons. System redesigns mid-way through a console life cycle ha...

Game Review: Kingdom Hearts III | A mess

I typed this post after the first couple hours of playing Kingdom Hearts III, with the intent of posting it the next morning. But then I kept playing it more and more, and this post just became a near diary of my thoughts of Kingdom Hearts III. So, what was supposed to be my First impressions, became more like my first, second, third, forth, fifteenth impressions. Basically a su-   Fuck it. It’s a damn review. As if anybody gives a damn. This post isn’t that spoilerific. But there are definitely spoilers. So if you’ve not played through Kingdom Hearts III yet, then go stream “Don’t Think Twice” by Hikaru Utada on Spotify.
