When Titanfall was shown off at E3 some people were soiling their underpants and tweeting out 3 word acronyms for how amazing the game looked. Others were sat motionless with a tear running down their cheek in a state of melancholic bliss. Some where completely oblivious to it all and only caught the wake of the aftermath and then proceeded to not really care about the game at all. The later was me. Yep. I was that guy.
News of the Infinity ward debacle caught my attention in a big way and gave an insight into just how easy it can be for a studio to be implode regardless of the successes that those exiled had brought to it. It brought to light the reminder that there are people and driving forces behind these games we play and that politics play heavily into everything and can cull something in the blink of an eye. For this, I cared quite a bit. But in terms of what it meant for the Call of duty series, I didn't care for shit. I have never been a CoD fan. I know they say you should 'never say never', but I will never be a CoD fan. I suck at FPS' for the most part and am very fussy and particular about which ones I buy and will say goodbye to my life for. News that the driving forces behind Infinity ward would go on to form Respawn entertainment and make that shooting game which embodies all of that good shit which Call of Duty was made of before it...quote...'turned to shit'...unquote - got a 'Hmmm' and a chin stroke outta me, but I had no feels for whatever game they would go on to develop, unless it were to be a re-imagining or a sequel to a franchise I loved and would ride, drop, roll and die for. So news of Titanfall didn't get much out of me, other than 'Oh, it's Call of duty with robots'.
Titanfall has giant robots, explosions, lots of giant robots, rockets and giant robots walking on walls and fighting other robots...on walls, but I'm not feeling the urge to part with my money for it all. It's not the genre, because I like blast 'em ups. It isn't the setting or premise, because I love me some big f**king robots and shit. Usually I don't care. I don't feel a need for my taste in games to be dictated by what the masses find popular. I never have. But occasionally a game will come along which everybody seems to love and I don't, and I will wonder 'why?'. With intrigue kicking in and posing the question to myself, Should I give this a chance? Will I be missing out on something I might actually like?
I'm not going to spend £40 on a game, in the hopes I might like it. I'm not made of money and that tree I have on my windowsill is not springing tenners on a daily like the old Chinese woman in the LIDL car park said it would. But what my experience of Grand theft auto V revealed to me (I'd never liked GTA before, but bought GTAV and fackin' loved it) is that sometimes games can surprise you. Sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone can be a good thing. Sometimes getting caught in the hype can lead to falling in love...or some shit. Maybe. With this in mind, I'm thinking that perhaps I should try to take more of an interest in Titanfall. Maybe I should go out of my way to try it, because the worst that can happen is that I don't like the game and I can trade it in for something else and then blame the internet for bombarding me with so much promo and ads on YouTube videos that I'm trying to watch that I felt compelled to buy the damn thing.
If you feel like I do in regards to this game and currently do not own an Xbox one to get in on that BETA demo action that all those other bitches have been enjoying, let's watch this trailer a few times and see if we can change our minds.
The dubstep Taylor Swift sounding song wasn't doing it for me. So I'm going to watch it again with the volume on mute and then watch a game play trailer of the BETA demo.
My mind. Not changed. But it's open.

No Xbox One. No interest. There never was any, and probably will never be any. Even if this shit got ported over to PS4, it just simply doesn't look interesting to me. The visuals are nice and I'm sure it's "badass" but that trailer was meh. The 360 had games that made me want to get one (before they came to the PS3).
ReplyDeleteI know it's early, but XBONE ain't doing it for me.
